Educational Value

The Cleveland History Center is the administrative headquarters for the Western Reserve Historical Society, founded in 1867 to preserve the history of Northeast Ohio. Our site includes two historic mansions (one built in 1911 and one in 1917/18), the Crawford Auto-Aviation Collection (historic cars and planes), the Chisholm Halle Costume Wing (historic clothing), and our core exhibit Cleveland Starts Here, a timeline of Cleveland history. We offer field trip programming and other educational events to students and their families throughout the year that focus on helping visitors make connections between Northeast Ohio past and present. Exhibits focus on social, political, and industrial trends in the Greater Cleveland area, and some temporary exhibits rotate through various museum spaces. All educational programs are designed with Ohio' Education Standards (Social Studies, ELA, and occasionally Science, Mathematics, or Financial Literacy) in mind to ensure content is appropriate to grade level.
