Educational Value

My Nose Turns Red Youth Circus (MNTR) is a creative youth development organization that provides circus arts education to uplift youth and build their self-confidence, trust, and solidarity. Our mission: Through the art of the theatrical clown and the one-ring circus, My Nose Turns Red cultivates a supportive environment that inspires youth to challenge themselves, develop essential life skills, and engage audiences. MNTR provides a supportive environment for youth to challenge themselves with dedicated coaches to learn circus skills, such as unicycling, German Wheel, lyra, juggling, and physical comedy. Each circus arts skill builds its capacity to balance and improve hand-eye coordination, perseverance, strength, and 21st Century Learning Skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, communication, adaptability, and overall physical literacy. At the end of each semester, they showcase their skills to friends and family. Showcasing builds the courage to stand in front of an audience, which takes courage and an essential life-long skill. MNTR has over 40 years of experience as an arts educator and has worked with the Kentucky Arts Council and the Greater Columbus Arts Council, providing in-school residencies. Currently, MNTR conducts after-school programming five days a week during the school year and all-day classes on Saturday, including advanced training; MNTR also has evening and Sunday classes and classes at a local children’s home. During the summer, MNTR conducts nine weeks of summer camps. My Nose Turns Red is a 501(c)3 organization that receives funding from The Ohio Arts Council, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, ArtsWave, and several local foundations.
